Lightweight Does Not Mean One Number

A lightweight camper can be easier to tow and store, but the word lightweight is marketing—not a complete tow rating. Compare the trailer's gross vehicle weight rating, estimated loaded weight and loaded tongue weight against the tow vehicle's ratings.

Payload is often the overlooked limit. Passengers, cargo, the hitch and trailer tongue weight all consume payload. Mountain grades, crosswinds and long distances also make stability, brakes and tire condition important for Montana travel.

Choose the smallest floorplan that still meets your sleeping, bathroom and storage needs. Then verify the actual ratings with the vehicle and trailer manufacturers before purchase.
